Breakfast for Leaders Event 2021 – Taking Commerce to the Cloud
Just as you’ve come to expect, our Breakfast for Leaders event for 2021 was a huge success and a great morning for all who attended. This exclusive knowledge share session, co-hosted by Tetrad IT and Salesforce, was an opportunity to hear the latest updates, insights, and industry trends within the ecommerce space with a very special guest, Theo Baloyi, founder and CEO of Bathu Shoes.
It’s the 21st century. Digital transformation is a hot topic for the year and a strategic focus for many organisations for years to come. So what does such a transformation entail and where on earth do you begin? We’re here to help and our Breakfast for Leaders event covered just that.
Our speakers delved into the topics of value, innovation and how to improve efficiency, whilst keeping customers unique journeys in mind.
Our next few blog posts will give a rundown of the event along with key takeouts. This is our 1st blog about the event. Let’s start with the main question first.

What is ecommerce?
Ecommerce (electronic commerce) refers to all online activity that involves the buying and selling of products and services. In other words, ecommerce is a process for conducting transactions online.
When you go to your favourite online retailer to buy a new pair of shoes, you’re engaging in ecommerce. If you pay online to attend a music concert or buy a plane ticket through the airline’s website, that’s ecommerce, too.
Ecommerce doesn’t only occur on your desktop, though. In fact, most ecommerce traffic is driven through mobile commerce. Spurred by the influence of smartphones and the comfort of online shopping, mobile commerce sales are expected to account for more than half of all ecommerce sales by 2021.

Our special event speaker, Alejandro Fernandez Alderete, a Salesforce Commerce Specialist, further elaborate on what ecommerce means to him:
‘You may think ecommerce as purely selling products online. For me, ecommerce is the way to engage with customers in their digital journeys as well as your brick and mortar stores. It is the painting of a story.
And it is also not only about welcoming new customers, but also about how you develop a level of trust and loyalty so that they will continue to shop with you. The question you need to be asking and answering is: Why are your customers consistently shopping with you? The answer is simple because what you are offering and developing is an experience for them and goes for both online and brick and mortar stores.
With Covid everything has changed. So the traditional ways of doing business have now changed. It’s more about how do you engage with your consumers and how do you
personalize that journey so that even though you don’t have that sort of face to face, you can still make relevant stories online.’
Personalization is a hot topic and you may think a holy grail of sorts. Well, we now have technology that Salesforce incorporates like artificial intelligence and data, which enable you to do just that.
Imagine you’ve got a wedding coming up and you’re looking for some red shoes to match an exquisite dress you bought last week. Or you want to match your lady and get a red tie. With the help of Salesforce technology, the ecommerce store will suggest different variations of red shoes or ties. Yellow suggestions wouldn’t help much, would it?
There are many ways to correct this and do it with Salesforce and ecommerce. This is where things start to get interesting.
